Unsolved Mystery
Edw. E. Bill
Let’s read together: Unsolved Mystery by Edw. E. Bill
The elves and brownies run about
The streets on Halloween,
And ghostlings fat and specters lean,
With many a whoop and many a shout
The noisiest spooks you’ve ever seen
Romp on the village green.
They gaily roam from street to street,
By ones and twos or more
Sometimes as many as a score!
Their rally cry “A trick or treat,”
As shyly they knock upon my door
While down the street come more.
I wonder what might be the trick
With which they threaten me.
I’ve never had the heart to be
An old curmudgeon who would pick
On such little tads and wee
To learn of that, you see.
