The Birthday Cake
Let’s read together: The Birthday Cake
I had a birthday party,
And lots of children came.
Upon the table was a cake,
And on it was my name,
There it was “Belinda”.
In letters large and pink,
Made of lovely sugar ice,
And, oh, what do you think?
It had nine candles on it!
Because I’m nine, you see,
One for every year I’ve lived
Oh happy, happy me!
The cake did look so lovely
With candles all a-gleam,
Everybody sat and stared
As if it was a dream!
I didn’t want to cut it
With all the candles lit
But when I’d blown them out, each one
We ate it, every bit!
