Let’s read together: The Story of Little Suck-a-Thumb<\/strong> by Heinrich Hoffmann<\/h2>\n

One day, Mamma said, “Conrad dear,
\nI must go out and leave you here.
\nBut mind now, Conrad, what I say,
\nDon’t suck your thumb while I’m away.
\nThe great tall tailor always comes
\nTo little boys that suck their thumbs.
\nAnd ere they dream what he’s about
\nHe takes his great sharp scissors
\nAnd cuts their thumbs clean off, – and then
\nYou know, they never grow again.”<\/p>\n

Mamma had scarcely turn’d her back,
\nThe thumb was in, alack! alack!<\/p>\n

The door flew open, in he ran,
\nThe great, long, red-legged scissorman.
\nOh! children, see! the tailor’s come
\nAnd caught our little Suck-a-Thumb.<\/p>\n

Snip! Snap! Snip! the scissors go;
\nAnd Conrad cries out – Oh! Oh! Oh!
\nSnip! Snap! Snip! They go so fast;
\nThat both his thumbs are off at last.
\nMamma comes home; there Conrad stands,
\nAnd looks quite sad, and shows his hands;-
\n“Ah!” said Mamma “I knew he’d come
\nTo naughty little Suck-a-Thumb.”<\/p>\n
