Let’s read together: The Story of Johnny Look-in-the-Air<\/strong> by Heinrich Hoffmann<\/h2>\n

As he trudg’d along to school,
\nIt was always Johnny’s rule
\nTo be looking at the sky
\nAnd the clouds that floated by;
\nBut what just before him lay,
\nIn his way,
\nJohnny never thought about;
\nSo that every one cried out\u00d1
\n“Look at little Johnny there,
\nLittle Johnny Head-In-Air!”<\/p>\n

Running just in Johnny’s way,
\nCame a little dog one day;
\nJohnny’s eyes were still astray
\nUp on high,
\nIn the sky;
\nAnd he never heard them cry –
\n“Johnny, mind, the dog is nigh!”
\nWhat happens now?
\nBump!
\nDump I
\nDown they fell, with such a thump,
\nDog and Johnnv in a lump!
\nThey almost broke their bones
\nSo hard they tumbled on the stones.<\/p>\n

Once, with head as high as ever,
\nJohnny walked beside the river.
\nJohnny watch’d the swallows trying
\nWhich was cleverest at flying.
\nOh! what fun!
\nJohnny watch’d the bright round sun
\nGoing in and coming out;
\nThis was all he thought about.
\nSo he strode on, only think!
\nTo the river’s very brink,
\nWhere the bank was high and steep,
\nAnd the water very deep;<\/p>\n

And the fishes, in a row,
\nStared to see him coming so.<\/p>\n

One step more! Oh! sad to tell!
\nHeadlong in poor Johnny fell.<\/p>\n

The three little fishes, in dismay,
\nWagged their tails and swam away.<\/p>\n

There lay Johnny on his face;
\nWith his nice red writing-case;
\nBut, as they were passing by,,
\nTwo strong men had heard him cry;
\nAnd, with sticks, these two strong men
\nHook’d poor Johnny out again.<\/p>\n

Oh! you should have seen him shiver
\nWhen they pull’d him from the river
\nHe was in a sorry plight,
\nDripping wet, and such a fright!
\nWet all over, everywhere,
\nClothes, and arms, and face, and hair
\nJohnny never will forget
\nWhat it is to be so wet.<\/p>\n

And the fishes, one, two, three,
\nAre come back again, you see;
\nUp they came the moment after,
\nTo enjoy the fun and laughter.
\nEach popp’d out his little head,
\nAnd, to tease poor Johnny, said,
\n“Silly little Johnny, look,
\nYou have lost your writing-book!”
\nLook at them laughing and do you see?
\nHis satchel is drifting, far out to sea!<\/p>\n
